On the Sunday following Thanksgiving, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screened just over 2.9 million individuals at airports nationwide, marking the busiest day ever for air travel. According to preliminary data from the TSA, Sunday set a new record at airport checkpoints.

The early throughput report for November 26 shows 2,894,304 screenings, surpassing the previous record set on June 30 when 2,884,783 individuals were screened. Final numbers are expected in the next day or so. American Airlines reported flying nearly 6.5 million passengers over Thanksgiving, making it the busiest travel day with over 6,100 departures. Additionally, American Airlines noted that it canceled fewer flights than in any other Thanksgiving period in its history.
